The clinic and center in Mursan is without no doubt the main base in our work. The clinic was built during 1962, and was opened in November the same year. At that time it was mostly home deliveries, and these days it is for us not much of that. Hardly these days anyone ask us to come home and deliver a baby any more. But now we have people doing these things.
At the time when the clinic was new we had a lot of home deliveries. I remember when I came to Mursan, at that time we had mostly deliveries in the homes, and I remember one night, we had 3 deliveries, and when the forth came, Ms. Borghild Sorensen said no, now they have to come to the clinic.
This year (2008) the Indian Government have started a special program, so all the women who are delivering a baby will be paid Rs. 1400.- This has done it rather difficult for the private hospital and NGO's, and many do not know what to do any more.
The three clinics we have (Mursan, Beswan and Karhari) have something similar, and that is that the clinics are open 24 hours for deliveries and other emergencies. One day in the week it is Ante Natal clinics for Beswan and Karhari, and in Mursan it is 2 days, and one day it is <5 clinic (Below 5 yrs clinic) in all the clinics, in Karhari Tuesday, and in Mursan and Beswan it is Wednesday. In the two clinics (Beswan and Karhari) it is on the days when the team is coming from Mursan.
One thing which is making the clinic in Mursan to a very special place and clinic, is the work we are doing because of the HIV/AIDS patients found on the awareness and Testing camps in the field. Without this clinic we would not have been able to do anything for these patients. For this purpose, we have 2 counsellors, 1 male and one female.
Below yoiu can read about the work we are doing in these clinics: |

The clinic in Mursan
The Methodist Public Health Center in Mursan is situated in a town with about 10-15.000 people. It is situated in Hathras District. The clinic in Mursan is a busy and a popular clinic. It is 2 doctors appointed, Dr. Mamta Kaushal and dr. Vishal Michael, and you might read about them in the "meet us" on this web site.
The clinic (MPHC) is open 24 hours for emercency, but since April 2008 the clinic is open 24 hours for all patients. This because the income is less since NORAD, Norway are not paying support to the clinics any more, only to the HIV/AIDS work.
However, sometime it might be a lot of emergency, like during the summer time, it will be a lot of diarrhoea, malaria etc., so a lot of patients need to be admitted, and so from time to time we will be very busy.
On the Fridays it might be a lot of patients coming. This is the day for the Poor People Clinic, and sometimes more than 100 patients attending the clinic. This day it is also a special day for the HIV/AIDS patients, Tuberculosis and other chronic ill patients.
In October 2005 the clinic in Mursan was upgraded to a DOT center (Direct Observation and Treatment ) for Tuberculosis patients. These patients are attending the clinic on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.
The clinic in Mursan have a lot of sterlization camps, at least 4-8 during a year. This is in collaberation with the Local Government in Hathras and Mursan. On these camps we are operating sometimes more than 100 women in one day. During 2007 we operated close to 500 women. |

The clinic in Beswan
The clinic in Beswan is situated in a town with about 10.000 people. Beswan belongs to Aligarh District.
This clinic was taken over by us on 1990. At that time it was in the hands of Methodist Hospital in Mathura, but as they wanted to sell it, it was given to us, and we have been running it since then.
Also here it is open 24 hours for emergency, and mostly for deliveries. Here it has been rather difficult to get staff, and so the effectiveness of the clinic has not been so good. To this clinic the team from Mursan are going every Wednesday, and so this is the very busy day here. Every Monday and Friday we have a doctor visiting, Dr. Sudesh.
The staff here are arranging awareness camps and house visiting. |

The clinic in Karhari
The Karhari Clinic is situated in a village, rather big one with about 10.000 peole. It belongs to Mathura District.
In Karhari we have been lucky, having staff since many years. Dr. L.S. Valiyan have been appointed there since long time, and he, together with his wife Bimla are both doing a very good job.
The team from Mursan are visiting Karhari every Tuesday, so this is the very busy day here, and that day it is Ante Natal, Vaccination of children and a lot of other patients also.
Also here the clinic is open 24 hours for emergency. and also here it is mainly for deliveries. In this clinic we have also had 3 HIV + deliveries. We have the ASHA building in Mursan, and there it is a delivery room for HIV+ patients. But since these patients came, ready to deliver, it was not possible to refer these patients to Mursan.
In Karhari it is busy days every day, and also staff who are willing to work and do something, so therefore we have a good number of patients there, and a good income also.
