Dhaba Project on High Way Delhi - Agra

This project was started up in the month of April 2005.  This was an program we got, because we went to Methodist Hospital and did some camps in the villages around there, but beacuse the response was so bad, we decided to change place, and go to the High way, close to the Refinery outside Mathura.

A Dhaba is a small restaurant on the High Way, where trailers/trucks stops, and the drivers will get some rest, food a bed to sleep on etc., but the problem is that beside all these things they are also given narcotica and sex.  So in this way we know, and all believe that these Dhaba's are one of the main cause of the spreding of HIV/AIDS virus.

We have selected 25 Dhabas, and here we have some  staff members, who are visiting these places regularly, talking with the drivers, distributing pamphlets etc., and the staff (HIV/AIDS Team) from Mursan will visit the place once in a week, and do HIV Testing.

We also always bring a counselor on these meetings, and we have gained a good contact on these Dhabas, and even the owners of the Dhabas are wishing us wellcome.

During 2007 we did 167 awareness camps with a total of 6775 people present.

We had 40 HIv testing and awarenes camps, where we took 1218 HIv Tests with a total of 10 HIV+. We are impressed about how good knowledge these people have to HIV/AIDS etc., and we hoe that by our work we will spread more knowledge among these people.

HIV/AIDS Camps on different Temples in Vrindaban.

The project in Vrindaban was started during  April 2007.  It is as on other places, awareness camps and Testing Camps.  Vrindaban is one of the holiest place in India for Hindus, as this is the place where Lord Krishna grew up.  He was born in Mathura.

This is also a place where many sick people wish to come, and spend the last time they shall live.  So many people come here, and stay in an Ashram or Tempel.

During 2007 it was held 116 awareness camps in Vrindaban, with a total of 4650 people present.  It was held combined awareness and HIV testing Camps, and a total of 622 tests wastaken, and of these 3 is HIV +.

We have during this year got a good contact with the people here.  The camps is held beside the gate to the temple.

Health Camps on the widows Ashrams / Temples

This work is part of the Vrindaban program, and as we see it, very important.  These camps are held about every second month.  This is Ashrams where only widows can stay in.  This is a great need, as in India in some of the states, the wife is just told to leave the house when the husband die.  They have nowhere to go, and for many this is the only place they might have.

These women are mostly old people, and we know how it is to be old. People get sick, and nobody are there to help.  They are poor also.  So they have a hard time.  We see from time to time some young widows also, and we have even seen one who was pregnant.

A few of these Ashrams are runned by the Government, or partly supported by them, but most of them do not even have from the hand to the mouth.

We believe that we can help these women, with some medicines and support.  Sometimes we also get some gifts from some people in Norway, so we can buy them  blankets etc. Last year we also distributed shawls also, and socks.
